I’m not the most creative person when it comes to names, so it was particularly difficult for me to come up with a name for this blog. I wanted something relevant to me of course, while also trying to be clever with words, something I’d say I’ve got better at over the years. Let me explain what ‘JustanaverageJogmeans’.

It’s a play made up of 2 acts; my last name Jog, and the phrase ‘Average Joe’, which conveniently sound similar. My last name is actually properly pronounced ‘Zoag’ (like Vogue but with a Z). However, I’ve encountered people butchering the pronunciation all through my life, and my family has kind of ‘allowed’ for it to be pronounced ‘Joag’ (again, like Vogue but with a J this time). Having a last name that was an actual word, as well as just one syllable, translated to numerous variations of it by friends over the years, which while tiresome to me, at least made me popular.

‘Just your Average Joe’ is something that I thought might be negative at first. I mean, who wants to be average, don’t we all strive to be better and grow as people, ESPECIALLY DURING COVID-19, because what better time than a pandemic to add some more stress to your life? Upon further reflection though, I realized that there’s nothing wrong with being average, or thinking of yourself as such. If nothing else, you’ll be in the majority based on the literal meaning of the word. I’ve got no qualms about being called that or coming to terms with it, there’s much more to concern yourself with.

And so this name. ‘Just an Average.. Jog’. I hope you enjoyed the little story behind the name, and thank you for reading!
